Arrival day

The arrival is on Sunday, June 12. Lectures will start on Monday, June 13. Please note that you cannot arrive before Sunday, 3 pm. Indeed, the school is closed before this time and the place is isolated ; there are no shops or restaurants nearby. Please make sure you have lunch before arriving at the school on Sunday afternoon.

The reception will be open from 6 to 7:30 pm. Participants will find in the entrance of the administrative building “Batiment Cécile DeWitt” the lodging plan with the name of their chalet and their bedroom’s number. They will be able to settle in their bedroom. 

Note: there is no key and all buildings have an access code. The access codes will be sent individually before the beginning of the session.

Access

General information can be found here. Les Houches school is located nearby the Les Houches village, which lies further down from the school in the valley at about 2.5 km. Les Houches is a village located in Chamonix valley, in the French Alps. Established in 1951, the Physics School is situated at 1150 m above sea level in natural surroundings, with breathtaking views on the Mont-Blanc mountain range. The walk to the village from the school is about 20 minutes downhill, and the return uphill is about 40 minutes (more in case of snow, which is expectable at this time of year), and the tight schedule might not allow the participants to too many trips in that direction.

By car

Cars must be parked on the upper car park.

By train through Les Houches railway station

Be aware that there is no permanent taxis at the station; it is therefore recommended to book in advance. The telephone numbers are:

Participants coming from abroad can also contact us to make the taxi reservations (time and place of arrival to be specified). In this case it is imperative that the request reaches us at houches-secretariat@univ-grenoble-alpes.fr, no later than Wednesday before their arrival. Beyond this date, the request cannot be processed.

The ride from Les Houches train station costs about 20 euros, and can be shared if you specify it to the taxi company that you use.

By plane or train through Geneva airport or railway station
